The Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria MWAN, commences it’s Biennial and Scientific Conference in Kaduna with free Cataract Surgeries and other Health interventions for well-being of Residents.
President of the Association in Kaduna, Dr. Aisha Mustapha who spoke to Newsmen at the commencement of the exercise said no fewer than 50 cataract patients will benefit from the Intervention on first day of the Conference.

Day one of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria took place in Gambo Sawaba General Hospital Zaria of Kaduna State.
The free surgical and medical outreach including Cervical Cancer prevention services and other interventions are to continue throughout the Conference which is expected to last for about 11 Days.
Dr. Aisha Mustapha, who spoke on the relevance of the 11 days pack full activity also decried the increase of cataract cases in the country.
According to the MWAN President, some Patients live with the condition for more than thirty years because of financial inability as such, the Association in it’s Cooperate Social Responsibility gives free medical services to the affected persons
“The biennial conference is a general meeting of all female doctors and dentists in the entire 36 states plus FCT in the country. So it is once in two years and it brings together every female doctor and dentist to one particular state. And this is the first time it is holding in Kaduna and in fact any of the 19 northern states. So we have the hosting rights today and we are flagging off with this outreach where we intend to perform 50 free cataract surgeries for indigent patients that have been going about with their blindness due to cataracts and they couldn’t afford surgery.”
The MWAN President stressed the need for people to live a healthy lifestyles while attributing cataracts causes to age-related changes, genetics, eye injuries, certain medical conditions, and long-term use of some medications.”
She also applauded the unwavering support of the Emir of Zazzau, HRH, Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli for his support towards addressing health challenges of women and the 24th Bennial Conference.

Some beneficiaries expreseed gratitude to the MWAN for the gesture, According to Grace Akema, aged 59, a beneficiary of the free medical surgery explained that for over the years she has been with the disease in which she could not afford to operate.
She prayed God to grant the organiser more financial power to do more and extend hands of help to other people who are also in need of such help.
