Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has assured international development partners that all funds allocated to the state will be used judiciously, with accountability remaining the cornerstone of his administration since assuming office in 2023.

Governor Yusuf stated this while receiving representatives of the Gates Foundation, Gavi, UNICEF, WHO, CHAI, and eHealth at the Government House, Kano.

Represented by the Chief UNICEF of staff Dr Imam Wali, the Governor reaffirmed the state’s commitment to fostering partnerships and collaborations that drive sustainable development.

He commended the partners for their various interventions in the state, including the provision of 28 solar-powered health facilities, and pledged continued cooperation to improve healthcare delivery and other sectors.

Speaking on behalf of the visiting organizations, Gavi’s Senior Country Manager for Nigeria, Jessica Crawford explained that, the delegation was in Kano to explore deeper partnerships, address challenges, and celebrate progress made so far.

Crawford stressed the importance of prudent use of funds to ensure mutual accountability between the government and its partners, describing Kano as a “pace-setter” in Nigeria.

“Kano is a critical partner for us, anything that succeeds in Kano can succeed anywhere in the country. If a project works in Kano, it works in Nigeria.”

Radio Nigeria reports that, earlier the delegation was in Panshekara PHC Kumbotso LGA to hand over the solar powered facilities to the state government.
