National Agency for the Great Green Wall has announced plans to plant fifty million date palm seedlings across eleven frontline states in Nigeria.

The Director General of the Agency, Alhaji Salihu Abubakar, made this known during the official flag-off of the 50 Million Date Palm Programme held in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.

He said five hundred thousand Date seedlings and other local trees will be planted across Jigawa state.

Alhaji Salihu Abubakar therefore called on the people to embrace the culture of Planting and Nursing Trees to address the challenges of desertification, soil erosion and climate change.

According to him, the National Agency for the Great Green Wall NAGGW has been working diligently across Nigeria’s frontline states to combat desertification, restore degraded land, and improve the livelihoods of rural communities.

He said, through afforestation, reforestation, and community-based natural resource management initiatives, NAGGW has planted millions of trees and helped rejuvenate the ecosystems that support life in the dryland regions.

He therefore expressed delight with the commitment of Jigawa state Government in hosting the annual event in Dutse.
