The Beyond Barracks Project has officially changed its name to the Defence Families Empowerment Foundation, reflecting its growth and commitment to empowering defence families and communities across Nigeria.

“New name expands focus to veterans, military personnel, spouses, children and the wider defence community”

In a press release issued on Sunday, November 1, 2026, by the

Foundation’s Founding Director, Mohammed Thompson says the change was limited to its name, stressing that its vision, mission, programmes and commitment to beneficiaries remained unchanged.

Mohammed Thompson explained that the new name provides a broader identity for its activities, covering veterans, military personnel, spouses, children and other members of the defence community.

He said the decision was informed by the organisation’s growth and the need for a name that clearly reflects the people it serves.

The Foundation’s Founding Director, noted that the organisation remained committed to transforming military communities through education, entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainable development.

“Under its new identity, the Foundation will continue implementing several initiatives, including the Defence Families’ Enterprise Development Programme, Defence Families Digital Skills Initiative, Defence Families’ Innovation Challenge and Digital Visibility and Artificial Intelligence Empowerment Programme”

“Other initiatives are the Defence Families’ Scholars Programme, which provides support for Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board registration, tutorials and mentorship, and the Defence Discount App, which offers discounts and other benefits to military and paramilitary personnel and their families”.

The Foundation called on its partners, supporters, beneficiaries and members of the public to adopt the new name in all official references, assuring them that existing relationships and commitments would continue without disruption.

It also expressed appreciation to those who supported the Beyond Barracks Project and invited new partners to collaborate with it in promoting the welfare, education and economic empowerment of defence families across Nigeria.
