The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has urged former presiding officers of State Houses of Assembly across Nigeria to promote public understanding of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reforms and foster national unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abbas made the call at an event organised by the Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Former Presiding Officers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria to herald the party’s 2027 presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna.

He said former presiding officers possessed valuable experience in lawmaking, budgeting and public administration that could continue to benefit society, promote good governance and strengthen democratic participation.
The Speaker acknowledged the economic challenges facing Nigerians, particularly the rising costs of food, transportation and other essential commodities. He urged political leaders to explain government policies using facts and evidence while addressing citizens’ concerns honestly.
Abbas also cautioned against divisive political rhetoric ahead of the elections, urging leaders to counter misinformation and provide clear answers to legitimate questions about government policies.
In a related development, Senator Simon Lalong has urged APC members to unite behind the party’s leadership and work collectively towards victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Lalong made the appeal while delivering a guest lecture at the gathering, where he reflected on his political journey and the consultations that preceded the 2023 general elections.
The former Plateau State governor stressed the importance of grassroots mobilisation, noting that political networks, family connections and community structures play significant roles in electoral outcomes.
He said the gathering provided an opportunity for experienced political leaders to strengthen party unity, exchange ideas and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, who attended the event, highlighted the importance of collective responsibility and cooperation in addressing the country’s security challenges and sustaining peace and stability.
One of the event’s organisers, Nuhu Goroh Shadaladiya, also urged APC supporters to mobilise support for the party and its candidates across elective positions in the 2027 general elections.
Shadaladiya said mobilisation efforts should extend beyond the presidential election to include APC candidates contesting governorship seats, National Assembly positions, State Houses of Assembly seats and other elective offices.
