‎Former governors from the 1999 set, popularly known as the “Class of ’99,” on Friday met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, where they offered practical suggestions on tackling insecurity, boosting the economy, and creating jobs across the country.

‎The delegation, led by former Edo State Governor Lucky Igbinedion, also included Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and other former governors who served alongside President Tinubu during his tenure as Lagos State governor.

‎Speaking to State House correspondents after the closed-door meeting, which lasted over an hour, Igbinedion explained that their visit was both a reunion with a fellow classmate and an opportunity to share actionable recommendations on national development.

‎“We came to see one of our own, a class of ’99, and to discuss issues affecting the country. We spoke about security, the economy, agriculture, and job creation. The President showed great concern about these issues and welcomed our input,” he said.

‎Igbinedion emphasized that security must remain the government’s top priority, as development is impossible without peace and safety.

‎“The first and foremost thing is security. Without security, there can be no progress and no stability,” he stated.

‎On job creation, the former governor urged the establishment of cottage industries in all local government areas as a sustainable solution to unemployment and poverty.

‎“If you give palliatives to somebody today, what happens tomorrow? We implored him to create cottage industries across the federation where people can be employed,” he added.

‎The delegation commended President Tinubu for his openness to constructive ideas, noting that he assured them of his readiness to consider their suggestions.

‎“The President assured us that his doors are always open for positive conversations and solutions that can move the country forward,” Igbinedion said.

‎This marks the second time the “Class of ’99” governors are visiting President Tinubu since he assumed office.
