The Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, has revealed that he reads his oath of office daily as a constant reminder of his responsibilities to the people of the state.
He made the remark on Wednesday during the swearing-in of the new Chairman of Gumel Local Government Area, following the passing of the former officeholder.
The ceremony took place at the Council Chambers of Government House in Dutse.
Governor Namadi emphasized the transient nature of life and urged public office holders to lead with sincerity and the fear of Allah, also reminded them that leadership is a divine trust that must be fulfilled with accountability.
He called on the new chairman and all public officials to reflect on the reality that life can end at any time, adding that leadership positions should be approached with a deep sense of duty.
The governor disclosed that he keeps a copy of his oath of office on his desk and reads it daily, encouraging the new chairman to do the same as a moral compass for leadership.
He warned against allowing personal interests to interfere with public service, describing it as the biggest threat to good governance.
Governor Namadi stated that those entrusted with leadership must always remember that they are accountable before God and should not betray the trust placed in them by the people.
He charged the new chairman to lead with humility, consult with key stakeholders, and ensure judicious use of public resources, particularly for grassroots development.
He further stressed that the finances of Gumel Local Government belong to the people and must be utilized to address their pressing needs and priorities.
Governor Namadi reminded the chairman that every indigene of the local government is his responsibility, irrespective of their political affiliation or background.
He concluded by stating that true leadership is built on fear of God, fairness, and a genuine desire to serve the people with integrity.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by government officials, traditional leaders, and members of the community.
