Federal Government has been urged to settle all outstanding pension arrears in honour of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, who was described as a pensioners-friendly leader during his tenure.

Retired workers of the FRCN and NTA made the appeal in a condolence message following the death of the former president and expressed hope that the promises made by relevant authorities would be fulfilled to address the challenges faced by senior citizens.

They reminded the Ministry of Finance, Accountant General of the Federation and the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate PTAD of recent letters sent on this issue and called for immediate action to avoid protests.

One of the Retirees Comrade Dupe Akindele warned that failure to settle the arrears agreed in the past would no longer be tolerated while expressing dismay over position of the Nigerian union of pensioners which is against the protests.

Also commenting on such delay, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar encouraged pensioners to protest over their maltreatment despite alleged provision of funds for the payment as directed by President Bola Tinubu.
