Kaduna State House of Assembly has passed a bill to establish the State Mining Development Company, aimed at boosting the state’s revenue and curbing illegal mining activities.

The bill, titled “A Bill for a Law to Establish the Kaduna State Mining Development Company, 2025,” was passed during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman.

In his remarks, Speaker Liman emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to driving sustainable socio-economic growth through effective management of the state’s natural resources.

Presenting the report on the bill, the Chairman of the House Committee on Environment and Natural Resources and representative of Kajuru Constituency, Hon. Danlami Usman Stingo, said the legislation seeks to ensure Kaduna State maximizes the economic potential of its solid mineral deposits.

According to Hon. Stingo, the new company will serve as a key platform for revenue generation and will also help to combat illegal mining activities through the establishment of a dedicated standing committee.

The committee will be empowered to identify and prosecute violators.

He further noted that the company would provide strategic recommendations to enhance revenue generation and promote transparency in the mining sector.

The initiative, he added, was also expected to create employment opportunities and empower local communities, which will have official representation in the standing committee to address their concerns and grievances.
