Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Affairs has begun a two-day oversight visit to Roni Local Government Area as part of its ongoing tour of the 27 local councils in the state.

Speaking at the Roni Local Government Secretariat, the Committee Chairman and Member representing Gwiwa Constituency, Alhaji Aminu Zakari, said the legislature is constitutionally mandated to oversee the implementation of government policies and programmes.

He explained that the visit will focus on assessing administrative and financial documents, including the 2024/2025 approved budget, Ecological Fund records, issues related to girl-child abuse, activities of local standing committees, as well as payment vouchers and other relevant financial documents, to ensure transparency and prudence in the management of public funds.

Alhaji Aminu Zakari further explained that the following day projects executed from October 2024 to date will be inspected after which the committee will receive report from its members in order to have a clear view of the condition of Roni Local Council.

He said the visit will also provide an avenue for interaction the committee and Executive and the Legislative Council as well as the management staff to strengthen synergy and cordial working relationship.

Earlier, the Chairman of Roni Local Government Council Dr. Abba Ya’u, said that the committee will no doubt provide the necessary guidance needed to ensure smooth administration of local councils in the state.

Dr. Abba therefore expressed his readiness to make good use of advise and recommendations of the committee for the development of the area.
