Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reiterated that his administration’s vision for public service reform goes beyond physical infrastructure but to ensure functional, motivated, and professional civil service.
He made this known during the commissioning of the newly renovated Block ‘C’ of the JB Yakubu State Secretariat Complex in Gusau, the state capital.
Governor Lawal noted that the event was not merely the unveiling of a renovated building, but a reaffirmation of his administration’s commitment to improving public service delivery and creating a conducive working environment for civil servants in Zamfara State
“I recall that just last year, we gathered here to commission the renovated Block A. Today, by the special grace of Almighty Allah (SWT), we are proud to hand over Block C for the service of our people. Insha Allah, we will soon return to commission Block B, completing the comprehensive renewal of the Secretariat Complex,” he said.
The governor explained that the building was constructed over two decades ago, had suffered severe deterioration due to prolonged neglect.
“Upon assuming office in 2023, we prioritized the rehabilitation of these critical structures as part of our broader effort to modernize public service infrastructure.
“Today, we are witnessing the outcome of that commitment — a fully upgraded, well-furnished, and dignified office complex that meets the standards of a modern civil service,” he stated.
Governor Lawal emphasized that while infrastructure is important, his administration’s broader goal is to strengthen institutional governance through strategic investment in the civil service.
“Our vision for public service reform transcends infrastructure. We believe a motivated and professional civil service is the backbone of effective governance,” he said.
The Governor also highlighted his administration’s consistent record of timely pension payments, ensuring financial stability for retirees.
“In addition, we have introduced an end-of-year productivity bonus, known as the ‘13th-month salary’ — a first in the history of Zamfara State. This is to reward dedication and motivate our workforce,” the governor added.
Earlier in his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Nakwada, commended Governor Lawal for his foresight, particularly in embarking on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure across various sectors.
