The National Assembly has been urged to adopt strategic measures to address the socio-economic challenges facing the country.

Public affairs analyst, Alhaji Idris Aliyu Kaura, made the call in response to the current wave of insecurity in the northern geopolitical zone, which he warned could undermine democratic governance.

He expressed concern over recent killings and abductions in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Niger, and Benue states, despite the trillions of naira allocated to the defence sector.

Alhaji Idris also criticized the reported plans for life pensions and post-retirement benefits for state governors such as vehicles, furniture, and security for their families saying such privileges should be reviewed in light of the country’s economic situation.

He emphasized that these benefits would be better directed to civilian retirees who have not yet received their full entitlements for several years.
