Banditry: Zamfara Monarchs Proffer Solutions

Zamfara Monarchs have advocated for fairness and justice for all citizens to end criminal activities in the state and county as a whole.

Emir of Kaura Namoda Alhaji (Dr) Sanusi Muhammad Ahmad Asha made the plea while delivering speech at a One-Day Conference, on the state Security, organized by the Students Union, Islamic University of Medinah, Zamfara State Chapter in Gusau the state Capital.

The Emir who spoke on behalf of the State council of chiefs and called on parents to let their children memorize their phone number in the case of emergency said, those engaged in banditry, kidnapping and other forms of atrocities have agitated for neglecting them, encroachment on their animals path, treated as second class citizens among others.

However, he accused some constituted authorities for not ensuring justice whenever the criminals were arrested and arraign before them instead they are granted bail or release high profile criminals who subsequently became threat to those who arrested them.

He noted that, extrajudicial killings against a particular tribe should be abolished, taking law into individual’s hands and allow security agents to discharge their duties legitimately as well as proving them with the required equipments and tools to fight the heartless criminals.

In his remark, the state Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, DIG Mamman Tsafe (rtd) who described the conference as timely, lamented that, the state was one of the most peaceful states in the federation since its creation in October, 1996, however, said the State started experiencing some potent security threats from what he said seems as farmers/herders conflict to a full-blown armed banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping and other forms of criminalities which bedeviled the state to unprecedented dimension in the past decade which left sizeable number of orphans, widows and traumatize large percentage of rural dwellers.

Mamman Tsafe noted that, the state government in a bid to curtailed the insecurity resorted to peace and reconciliation accord with the bandits, saying, the approach was due to the topographical nature of the state and also listed some of the government’s gesture to the repented bandits which includes Ruga settlement.

He added that, the state government had also provided security agencies with operational vehicles and established Community Protection Guards and provided Motorcycles and Operational vehicles for their operations among numerous measures adopted.

Speaking, Chairman of the Conference, Dr Ayuba Muh’d Kaura urged government, security agencies and entire citizens to take security as their responsibility and charged them to abide with the teachings of Islam by obeying Allah’s commandments and repent truly for devine intervention to end the authorities, saying Islam teaches peace and values human lives.

During the conference, papers presented were, ” The importance of peace in Islam”; “Insecurity and the measures of elimination; and “Enormous contributions of leaders and their followers for the implementation of peace” which delivered PhD students of the Islamic University of Medinah.
