Second batch of Team Nigerian athletes to the 22nd Commonwealth Games returned to the country with a rousing welcome from supporters club and officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
Over 19 athletes touched down at about 11:30pm at the International Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja.
Thrilled by the performance of the athletes, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar showered encomiums on the nation’s Ambassador, describing their feat in Birmingham as spectacular.
“you did us proud and we are grateful that you recorded Nigeria best outing in the history of the Commonwealth Games. We shall still reach out to you for a red carpet reception for you our Ambassadors”
The athletes sparkling in green white green Nigerian colour, enjoyed sweet tunes from the supporters club.
Team Nigeria amassed 12 Gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze, a total of 35 medals at the end of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The gold medal haul is the highest at a single Commonwealth Games for Team Nigeria, representing its best performance ever in the history of the Commonwealth Games.
