Lecturers under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter, have commenced a two-week warning strike over unresolved issues between the union and the Kaduna State Government.
The decision was reached on Thursday, August 27, 2026, following an extensive meeting attended by hundreds of academic staff of the university.
The lecturers reportedly rejected the N300 million earned allowances approved by the state government as sufficient resolution to their grievances, insisting that several other outstanding issues remained unresolved.
Among the issues raised by the union are the implementation of the 25–35 per cent salary agreement, university autonomy and payment of promotion arrears, among other demands.
In a statement issued through its official Facebook page, the union said the warning strike followed the expiration of the two-week ultimatum earlier issued to the government on August 12, 2026.
The union said members had deliberated extensively on developments since the issuance of the ultimatum before agreeing to embark on the fresh two-week warning strike.
According to the union, it would review the situation after the two-week strike and take a final decision if no meaningful progress was made in resolving the outstanding issues.
It warned that failure to achieve a satisfactory resolution could lead to the closure of the university.
Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, leaders of the union were said to be meeting with the negotiation committee constituted by the Kaduna State Government to address the grievances.
The outcome of the negotiations is expected to determine the next step by the union after the two-week warning strike.
