The Theatre Command Operation Hadin Kai has presented three more Chibok girls who have lately escaped the Sambisa forest.

Ruth Bitrus, Kauna Luka, and Hannatu Musa.

Ms Bitrus said she spent three days in the jungle while attempting to escape.

The girls and their four children were rescued by troops from the 21st Special Armoured Brigade Bama, according to Major General Christopher Musa, Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai.

He told newsmen at the command’s headquarters in Maidurigu, Borno State that the recent success was due to the application of both kinetic and non-kinetic techniques in the counter-insurgency operation.

The forces’ clearance operation enabled the girls to flee, according to Major General Waidi Shaibu, General Officer Commanding GOC Seven Division Nigerian Army.

Insurgents abducted 276 female students from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State, in April 2014.

57 of the schoolgirls escaped soon after the attack by jumping from the vehicles on which they were being transported, while others have been rescued several times by the Armed Forces.

Over 100 of the girls are still missing seven years after.

70, 000 insurgents surrender

The Theatre Commander announced that around 70,000 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters and their families have surrendered to Operation Hadin Kai troops.

General Musa said there are 14,000 male fighters, more than 20,000 women, and 35,000 children.

According to him, the command, in collaboration with the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, has begun reviewing detainee cases at the joint investigative centre.

He added that some of the detainees have been cleared and have been handed over to the Borno state government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
