The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed Richard Gele, a police inspector who was caught on camera “justifying extortion”.

In a video that went viral recently, the officer was seen boasting that he had no issue with extortion.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, said in a statement that Gele, who joined the force in 2000, will face prosecution after his dismissal.

“His dismissal came after subjection to an internal disciplinary mechanism and being found wanting of the charges levelled against him in line with extant laws governing the conduct of police personnel.”

As a result, he is no longer a member of the Nigeria Police Force with immediate effect, he added in the statement.
