Kaduna State government says the only way to stop the spread of malaria is for the people to be sleeping under insecticide nets.

Governor of the State, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai stated this while flagging off the distribution of 5.5 million insecticide nets in the state.

Malam Nasiru El-Rufai said malaria kills people more than other deceases like HIV and Corona virus among others.

He expressed happiness that, malaria vaccine has finally being produced hoping that, going forward it will be available to the people.

Malam Nasiru El-Rufai gave an assurance that, the state government would continue to sensitise members of the public on the important of using mosquito nets.

He however commended the partners for honouring his wife as nets ambassador for the state.

Earlier, the Director Monitoring and Evaluation for the National Malaria Elimination Programme, Federal Ministry of Health, Mrhukwu Okoronko emphasized the need for Nigerians to adopt the habit of sleeping under nets as part of the Federal government effort to ensure reduction in the prevailance of malaria.

Mr. Okoronko explained that, the country had achieved declined in Malaria prevailance from 40% in 2010 to 22% in 2018, noting that, Nigeria is hoping further declined in the National Programme.

In a remark, the World Health Organisation WHO Coordinator in Kaduna State, Mr Sunday Audu stressed the need for Kaduna state government to do more in the fight against malaria.

According to Mr Audu, WHO would continue to work with government at all levels to improve the lives of people.

Kaduna State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Society for Family Health and other stakeholders Flagged off the distribution of the Free insecticide nets.

The event was attended by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Mohammed Baloni among other stakeholders.
