The decrease in electricity generation is the result of a partial shutdown of the Oben gas plant.

The plant, which is in dire need of processing equipment repairs, produces gas, used to generate more than 35% of the country’s electricity.

The incident unfortunately occurred at a time when other power plants on other gas sources are undergoing planned maintenance and capacity testing”, Abubakar Aliyu, Minister of Power, posted on Twitter, on Saturday.

In recent months, parts of the country have experienced low to no electricity, sometimes for three straight days.

Mr Aliyu said the Seplat Energy Plc has mobilised equipment, materials, and personnel to the site to restore normal gas supply to the affected power plants.

According to him, the repair work will be completed this weekend and normalcy will be restored, adding that efforts are being made for a sustained improvement of supply across the country.
