The federal government has commenced the distribution of assorted food items to three thousand five hundred returning displaced persons of Teachers village camp in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

Presenting the items, Director General National Emergency Management Agency NEMA Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed said the intervention is to support Borno state government in fast tracking the return of displaced persons back to their communities.

Represented by Director Relief and Rehabilitation of the Agency Alhassan Nuhu, the DG NEMA said each family would be given double ration to enable them resettle and continue with their livelihood. 

He explained that NEMA has provided similar assistance to IDPs at Bakasi camp and other locations in the metropolis. 

“this is support of the federal government to the returning IDPs, to show them that we are with them while they are staying in camps and we are with them as they relocate to their places of abode”.

Zonal Coordinator NEMA Northeast zone Mrs Lydia Wagami assured that the Agency will sustain the support to returnees based on need basis.

Some of the beneficiaries Saidu Hamidu and Habu Sagewa from Doron Baga in Kukawa local government commended federal government for the continued support and promised to engage in activities that improve their livelihood when they return.
