The Commissioner, Accident investigation Bureau Nigeria-AIB-N, Mr. Akin Olateru has pledged the Bureau’s commitment to the timely release of accidents and incidents reports to prevent a recurrence.

Mr. Olateru who made the pledge during a question and answer section with aviation reporters in Lagos said, he would also ensure that the quality of the report was topnotch and the fact made clear for easy comprehension by the reader.

He emphasized that to achieve this, workers welfare, the issue of training, promotion and equipping of staff with the right tools would be taken seriously.

“For instance, going to the accident site, the right operational vehicle and the whole things that will give them satisfaction”.

Mr. Olateru stated that, to continue to deliver on their mandate of investigating serious incident and accident, it had to be done to the highest professional level.

On the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry, the AIB-N boss said, the government had done well in the handling and management of the pandemic so far considering the rate of infections and deaths.

According to him, a look at the domestic and international operations, while most flights around the world were going half, in Nigeria it is full, adding that anyone travelling to Abuja for instance must book three or four days ahead to secure a seat because of the increased passenger load.

“I can tell you that we have done well than most of the richest countries, even though we are not the richest, but we have done excellently well”.

According to him, the flight from Houston to London, they combine three days flight, they are still not up to 50 per cent, yet coming to Nigeria, the flight is always full.

Mr. Olateru urged airline operators and other aviation service providers to keep up with the standards and make flight enjoyable for passengers and also stressed the need to make customer relations better.
