FEC Approves N2.7bn For Communities Affected By Zungeru Power Project

Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved 2.7 billion Naira as augmentation for building of houses for the resettlement of communities affected by the construction of Zungeru Hydro Electric Power Project in Niger State.

The Minister of Power, Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu, stated this in Abuja at the end of the council’s meeting, presided by President Buhari.

He explained that the construction of the 700 megawatts power project would revise the subsisting amount from 19.64 billion Naira to 22.38 billion Naira.

Explaining the recent drop in the level of power generation in the country, the Minister said the major problem was that of gas, saying however that the government is close to generating 5000 megawatts as earlier promised.

FEC has also approved 765 million Naira as additional fee for the forensic audit of the activities of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

While briefing newsmen, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Okoh, said the auditors engaged to do the job had since concluded their work, but that in the course of their assignment, it was discovered that they had to deal with many more projects than were initially envisaged, hence the need for additional fee to pay up their entltlments appropriately.
