United Nations has condemned the attacked on three humanitarian aid facilities in Damasak, Borno state.
In a statement by the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr Edward Kallon said group launched the attack on Saturday night through Sunday morning, set ablaze the facilities and targeted aid partners.
The statement noted that humanitarian operations in Damasak would be reduced due to the violent attack, which would affect the support to 8,800 internally displaced persons and 76,000 people in host communities.
It cautions that civilians and aid workers, their facilities and assets should not be target during conflict situations.
“I strongly condemn the attack, as humanitarian aid operations and facilities are the lifeline for people affected by the violence and conflict in North-east Nigeria who are dependent on assistance to survive”.
The statement appeals for continued support from donor partners to achieve the target of providing lifesaving and life sustaining assistance to 6.4 million people in the region by the end of the year.
