The Executive Council of the Zamfara State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ZACCIMA), in collaboration with leaders of more than 30 traders’ associations in the State, has unanimously expelled the Chamber’s Deputy President One, Chika Galadima, over alleged irregularities and other offences.
The decision was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Chamber held in Gusau, the Zamfara State Capital.
According to members of the Executive Council, Galadima was expelled following allegations of delaying decisions aimed at promoting the growth and development of the Chamber, as well as personalising the affairs of the organisation, among other offences.
The stakeholders said the decision followed what they described as Galadima’s failure to provide the leadership required to move the Chamber forward and effectively represent the interests of the business community in the State.
Following the resolution, the Executive Council unanimously appointed the Chamber’s Deputy President Two, Alhaji Abubakar Kabir, to take over as Deputy President One.
Speaking after his appointment, the newly appointed Deputy President One, Alhaji Abubakar Kabir, thanked members of the Executive Council and representatives of traders’ associations for the confidence reposed in him.
“I accept the nomination for the position of Deputy President One of the Chamber and agree to work with all stakeholders for the development of commercial activities in the state,” he said.
Kabir pledged to collaborate with the Zamfara State Government and other stakeholders to promote trade and businesses and contribute to the growth of economic activities across the State.
He also commended members of the Council, traders and business associations for their dedication and commitment to the development of ZACCIMA, while appealing for their continued support and cooperation.
The stakeholders also appealed to Governor Dauda Lawal to support the Chamber in its efforts to revive commercial and economic activities across Zamfara State.
In separate remarks, representatives of the various traders’ associations called on the state government to provide accessible loans and other forms of financial support to traders to enable them to expand their businesses and boost commercial activities.
They said it was time for the government to consider approving soft loans for traders across the state, noting that such intervention would strengthen businesses and contribute to economic development.
Among the associations represented at the meeting were the Cattle Dealers Association, Motorcycle Sellers Association, Fish Sellers Association, Poultry Farmers Association, Dates Sellers Association, Block and Builders Association, Groundnut Sellers Association and Grains Dealers Association, among others.
