The Jigawa State House of Assembly says the tour of the House Committee on Local Government across the 27 local government councils of the state has been recording successes, as the committee has witnessed unprecedented progress taking place in rural areas across the state.

Deputy Chief Whip of the Assembly, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad Andaza, made the remark while commenting on the 2026 oversight tour of local government areas by the House Committee on Local Government.

The Deputy Chief Whip said water, health and educational projects, among others, have been executed in rural areas, including hard-to-reach communities, as part of efforts to improve the living conditions of the people.

Alhaji Yahaya Andaza however expressed concern over the persistent lack of maintenance culture among the people which continue to deter the intended progress at the grass root level.

He noted that lack of maintenance culture and feeling of ownership has continued to bite deeply into public structures to the extent that replacement of a seventy thousand Solar Panel as against the millions spent by the government could lead to the destruction of a water scheme as a result of lack of maintenance culture.

He stressed the need for community based associations across the state to mobilize the people to direct attention towards complimenting government effort through maintenance culture and taking ownership of projects executed in their various locations.

He also urged traditional rulers to enlighten their subjects on the importance of protecting public structures and institutions as beneficiaries of government policies and programmes.
