A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to March 31, 2026.
The decision was reached during proceedings today, where the court considered submissions from both the prosecution and the defence teams.
Nasir El-Rufai arrived at the court premises under tight security for his arraignment, drawing attention from the public and observers.
The presence of security operatives ensured order as the high-profile case commenced.
During the hearing, counsel to the defendant, Ukpon Akpan, urged the court to grant bail to his client.
He argued that El-Rufai is entitled to his constitutional right to bail and should be allowed adequate time and freedom to prepare his defence.
However, the prosecution opposed the bail application, stressing that the charges against the former governor are serious.
The prosecution further argued that granting bail at this stage could interfere with ongoing investigations related to the case.
After listening to arguments from both sides, the presiding judge adjourned the matter to March 31, 2026, for ruling on the bail application.
Further details of the case are expected to emerge as proceedings continue.
