The Committee set up by the Kebbi State Government to review the salary structure of primary school teachers and implement a table for minimum wage has submitted his report to Governor Nasir Idris.
Presenting the report at Government House Birnin Kebbi, the Chairman of the committee, Professor Malami Shehu said they recorded over twenty nine thousand teachers across the State.
Professor Malami Shehu said the teachers in the State need a comprehensive list through personal audit and biometric captured data to fish out the ghost workers as well as to have full list of promotion, replacement of retired, resigned or transferred staff.
According to him, past administrations that adopted the N18,000 and N30,000 minimum wages did not implement the salary table appropriately for primary school teachers, unlike the salary structure for secondary school teachers saying the lapses and gaps emanated from this discrepancy.
He also advocate for the introduction of responsibility allowances especially to the head teachers and supervisors as well as to have a synergy between local government and local education authorities in order to have standard data base and quarterly inter ministerial meetings to review salary and other activities.
Responding, Governor Nasir Idris said he would carefully study the report and present it to the executive council meeting for deliberations and timely action on it as he commended the efforts of the committee members for the conduct of their assignment.
He who expressed concern over why primary school teachers were receiving meagre take-home pay despite the implementation of the N75,000 minimum wage added that, upon assuming office as the state governor, he increased the salary allocation for teachers from N586 million to over N1.2 billion.
The Governor further explained that, the salary of each civil servant in the State is expected to double if not triple to enable them to cushion their effect.
In their separate remarks, the NLC, NUT and NULGE leaders also elaborate more on their findings and the report of the committee.
