The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for heightened vigilance against Mpox, a viral disease capable of causing long-term complications and even death if not properly managed.

WHO Public Health Officer in Kaduna, Dr. Furaira Zakari, made the call during a media engagement on the integrated Mpox vaccination campaign in Kaduna.

Dr. Zakari described the disease as highly contagious and urged the public to promptly report any noticeable symptoms to health authorities to prevent severe health consequences.

Dr. Furaira emphasized that the campaign is capital intensive, and the largest that the country has ever had.

“We are going to immunize over 106 million children Nationwide while we are targeting 4.2 million children in the community. So the call to action related to this one was the success of this campaign depends on collective effort from household, caregivers, community leaders, and the media yourself.”

Earlier the Director Disease Control and Immunization Malam Hamza Ikara announced the commencement of the state integrated measles and Rubella campaign under the phase One National roll out of the exercise.

“We are going to start our own from the 18th of october to 27 october for the period of 10 days this exercise is an integrated part which involves all the routine immunization vaccine or child preventable diseases that we have been doing across the state and also the measles rubella vaccines”
