The index case of Ebola virus disease has been evacuated to Switzerland for further care, following significant clinical improvement.

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, confirmed this in his X handle

According to him, the patient departed Abuja earlier this morning with his approval.

Professor Pate said the patient was stable, conscious, communicating, and had shown considerable improvement, with clinical laboratory results approaching baseline levels.

He, however, cautioned that the improvement did not mean the patient was no longer infectious, stressing that strict public health protocols remained in place.

The Minister said the patient was evacuated alongside her spouse, who has remained asymptomatic.

Professor Pate commended the clinical personnel who cared for the patient and public health officials who ensured that the evacuation complied with established public health measures.

He said further updates would be provided later in the afternoon after the patient and her spouse arrived safely at their destination.

The Minister reassured Nigerians that public health measures would continue to ensure the successful containment of the imported virus.

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and rely on information from credible sources.
