In a rare demonstration of responsive leadership, the Senator representing Southern Kaduna Senatorial District, Barrister Sunday Marshall Katung, has acknowledged and responded to a public appeal made through social media regarding the decade long electricity outage in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State
The appeal, posted by a concerned citizen under the pseudonym “Chawai Gossip”, thanked the Senator for his visible efforts in championing development across Southern Kaduna but humbly drew attention to the prolonged blackout in Kauru LGA.
According to the post, the lack of electricity for over ten years has crippled healthcare delivery, disrupted education, hindered commerce, and disconnected communities from vital communication services.
In his response, Senator Katung emphasized the importance of citizen engagement, describing it as the hallmark of democracy.
He noted that listening to the concerns of everyday people remains a core part of his legislative responsibility.
While acknowledging the severity of infrastructural challenges in the area, including electricity, road access, healthcare, and security; the Senator assured that his office is actively engaging relevant authorities at both the Federal and State levels to find lasting solutions.
“The concerns raised are legitimate and deserve serious attention. I have escalated the issues and I’m currently engaging the Executive arm of the Government to address them. It may take some time due to bureaucratic processes, but by the Grace of God, they will be resolved,” the Senator stated.
He also noted ongoing efforts by security agencies to address insecurity in the region and prayed for lasting peace across Kauru and the entire Kaduna State.
When contacted by Radio Nigeria, the anonymous writer behind “Chawai Gossip” expressed happiness and hope over the Senator’s swift response, describing it as a welcome surprise and a sign that the people of Kauru have not been forgotten.
“I didn’t expect a reply, let alone this fast. It means a lot to us. It shows that our voices matter, even when spoken from behind a screen,” the message sender said.
Followers of the social media group have since praised the Senator’s acknowledgment of the appeal, describing it as a sign of leadership that listens.
