The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the Young Farmers Club in primary schools across Zamfara State under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
The program is designed to introduce children to agriculture at an early age and foster interest in farming among children.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Senator Oluremi Tinubu represented by the wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal emphasized the importance of engaging children in practical farming to build a future generation that values agriculture.
She encourage all students to fully engage in farming activities, describing farming as a foundation of Zamfara State’s economy.
“With the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and support from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, we are creating new ways for you to see farming differently. The Young Farmers Club is not just a program,it’s a movement to make farming modern, exciting, and rewarding”
“This project gives you access to the latest farming tools, knowledge, and skills. It’s also a chance to share ideas, learn from each other, and grow. The idea that farming is only for older people is not true. Farming is for everyone especially the young, ambitious, and creative”
According to her, each participating primary school in the state has been provided with a fully equipped school farm which include a solar-powered motorized borehole, water pump machines, wheelbarrows, hoes, and cutlasses, among other tools as well as 100,000 cash Grant.
She noted that the program is a strategic step toward achieving food security and economic empowerment.
“I sincerely thank the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for bringing this amazing program to every state.
“We also thank the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security for working with us and helping us welcome160 students selected from Eight different schools from upper primary and Junior Secondary across the state into the Young Farmers Club here in Zamfara”
“To the students, I say let’s bring back school farms. Let every school become a place where future farmers are trained. To make sure Nigeria has enough food, we must start small and that begins with you. Let’s build a future based on hard work, new ideas, and love for our land”
According to Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal they are rebuilding hope and confidence among citizens through these policies and programs.
“If children grow up with agricultural knowledge and skills from primary school, we can effectively address the issue of youth unemployment.”
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Malam Wadatau Madawaki; the Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Nasir Garba; and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Hajiya Maryam Yahaya Shantali, among others.
