President Muhammadu Buhari has urged Insurance firms in Nigeria to take advantage of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts at growing the non-oil sector of the economy through innovation.

The President made the call in Abuja, while speaking virtually at the opening of the 47th African Insurance Organization Conference and Annual General Assembly.

He noted that the Insurance sector could play a vital role in the diversification of the economy by bringing necessary stability, economic sustainability, revenue generation, job creation and financial inclusiveness.

While commending the sector for the vital role it played against the spread of Covid-19, President Buhari gave his administration’s assurance of supporting Insurance growth in Nigeria and Africa at large.

He said the theme of the conference, “Rebuilding Africa’s Economy: An Insurance Perspective”, was apt and well thought out to respond to the reality of the moment as many governments tried to devise ingenious ways to manage their economy in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

President Buhari observed that Covid-19 was still a serious challenge in many countries across the globe, saying however that adequate protocols had been put in place in Nigeria to curb its spread.

He added that government understood the nation needed to frontally tackle some of the disruptions to the socio-economy and health of the people, occasioned by the pandemic, by putting in place sufficient measures that would allow the system to function.
