Jigawa State Government and CARE International have reaffirmed their strategic partnership to improve nutrition and promote women’s empowerment across the state.
The renewed commitment focuses on scaling up targeted interventions to enhance maternal and child health, strengthen household food security, and expand economic opportunities for women.
This was disclosed during a courtesy visit by a delegation from CARE International and the CASCADE Project to Governor Malam Umar Namadi at the Government House in Dutse on Thursday.
The visit formed part of ongoing engagements to assess the impact of existing interventions and deepen collaboration with the state government.
Speaking during the visit, CARE International Nigeria’s Deputy Director, Mrs. Jennifer Orgle, commended the Jigawa State Government for its strong support, describing it as critical to the success of their programmes.
She noted that feedback from women beneficiaries highlighted the need for increased access to farmland to boost the production of nutritious food.
Mrs. Orgle said the delegation engaged with beneficiaries, government officials, and private sector partners, including visits to primary healthcare centres, where they observed improvements in the wellbeing of women and children.
She emphasized that the progress recorded would not have been possible without the government’s partnership and commitment.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Government House, Dutse, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, Governor Namadi welcomed the delegation and praised CARE International and its partners for their sustained efforts in tackling nutrition challenges in the state.
He described malnutrition as a major concern in Jigawa and across Nigeria, stressing the importance of early interventions to secure healthier outcomes for children.
The governor highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the MASAKI programme and the Tom Brown nutrition programme, which leverages locally available resources to improve child nutrition.
According to him, over 600 women have been trained and supported with equipment, while being linked to primary healthcare centres to ensure steady demand for their products.
He said the initiatives are addressing both nutrition and women’s economic empowerment, adding that efforts are underway to secure regulatory approval for locally produced nutrition products.
Governor Namadi assured the delegation of continued government support, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to partnerships that improve the wellbeing of women and children across the state.
