No fewer than 66,446 children have been immunised during the recently concluded polio vaccination exercise in Tarauni Local Government Area, marking a major success in efforts to eradicate the disease.
The Primary Health Care Coordinator of the area, Muktar Datti Gwarzo, attributed the achievement to strong community support and collaboration among stakeholders.
He described the commitment of traditional leaders, health workers, and the leadership of the local government as a major catalyst to ensuring that every eligible child was reached during the exercise.
Gwarzo noted that sustained public awareness campaigns would be intensified to educate residents on the importance of routine immunisation, with the goal of completely eradicating polio from the community.
Also speaking, the Health Educator, Musa Abdullahi Shamakawa, acknowledged dedication of health workers and traditional rulers for actively sensitising parents on the benefits of immunisation.
In his remarks, the Director of Personnel Management in the local government and Chairman of the Forum of 44 Local Government Directors, Tijjani Madaki Gulya, urged parents and caregivers to continue supporting immunisation programmes to safeguard the health of children and the wider community.
He emphasised that sustained participation in such initiatives remains critical to preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.
