Governor Dauda Lawal has distributed fertilisers, farm inputs, and agricultural equipment to support dry-season farming across Zamfara State.

The distribution ceremony took place at the Fadama III facility of the Ministry of Agriculture in Gusau, where the governor described the intervention as critical to boosting crop yields, reducing post-harvest losses, and promoting sustainable farming practices.

Governor Lawal disclosed that the farm inputs distributed included 3,920 bags of NPK fertiliser, 1,956 bags of urea fertiliser, 3,920 litres of herbicide, 1,956 litres of insecticide, and 3,920 sachets of seed-dressing chemicals.

He reiterated that, the initiative was part of his administration’s broader strategy to increase agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and improve the livelihoods of the people of Zamfara State.

“Farming is the backbone of our economy, and it is our responsibility to support farmers with the necessary resources to thrive,” the governor said.

“This distribution of fertilisers, inputs, and other farm equipment is aimed at strengthening dry-season farming not only in Zamfara State but across the country.”

Governor Lawal noted that the NG-CARES programme has laid a strong foundation for agricultural development in the state, adding that similar farm-input support initiatives implemented in previous years have reached tens of thousands of small holder farmers.

The governor urged beneficiaries to make effective and responsible use of the inputs, stressing that sustainable agricultural development remains a key priority of his administration.

He also acknowledged the security challenges confronting the state, assuring farmers that the government would continue to strengthen the security architecture of communities to enable safe and productive farming activities.

Governor Lawal commended the Federal Government of Nigeria and development partners for their continued support of the NG-CARES programme, noting that the initiative has significantly improved agricultural yields, incomes, and food security through the combination of farm inputs, advisory services, and peer learning.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to effective collaboration to ensure the seamless implementation of agricultural and developmental policies for the overall growth of the state.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to Zamfara State government for the gesture aimed at boosting dry season farming.

Farmers from 14 local government area of the state would benefit from the gesture.
