Governments and Non Governmental Organizations have been advised to come to the aid of displaced persons of Borgu Local Government Council of Niger state that are running away from their ancestral homes due to incessant bandits attack.
The Chairman of a Non Governmental Organisation, Youth Initiative for entrepreneurial Leadership and Development and Son of late Emir of Borgu, Murtala Haliru Dantoro gave the advice in a telephone interview with Radio Nigeria in Minna.
Murtala Haliru Dantoro described as a humanitarian crises the way women and youth from neighboring villages are running to Wawa Community to protect themselves from bandits attacks stressing that the community has been overwhelmed with Internally Displaced Persons.
He however explained that he is currently making efforts to see how he can personally contribute some money to support the victims and to also leverage on his connections with some NGO’S in Nigeria and abroad to see how he can raise funds for the Internally Displaced Persons taking refuge in Wawa Community, while the Emir of Borgu Mohammed Sani Dantoro had donated one million naira to ease their hardship.
Murtala Haliru Dantoro also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Jagaban Borgu to as a matter of urgency establish a military barrack in Borgu Emirate to deal with escalating cases of bandits attack in Agwara and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger state, where the bandits are trying to take over their ancestral homes.
Investigation conducted by Radio Nigeria revealed that over thirty two persons in have been killed in Konkoso, Pissa kabi and Tungan makeri by the rampaging bandits, many people abducted and properties worth million of naira destroyed within the last three days.
Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command Superintendent of Police Wasi’u Abiodun had in a statement issued to Newsmen in Minna said joint security teams have been mobilised to the scene for assessment and effort to rescue the victims is ongoing.
