National Health Insurance Authority NHIA has commenced the recruitment of National Health Fellows in Jigawa State.

The exercise is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in partnership with Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) Coordination office (SCO) under the Coordinating Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate.

Speaking after the recruitment, the Assistant Director and Special Assistant to the Director-General of NHIA, Dr Jibrin Muhammad Bashar, said the programme aims to strengthen supervision of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund across primary healthcare facilities in the state.

Dr Bashar, who also served as the National Supervisor for the exercise in Jigawa, explained that the selected fellows will oversee the implementation of the fund at the grassroots level.

He said the fellows will serve as ambassadors of the Federal Government’s Basic Health Care Provision Fund, which is managed by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.

According to him, the fund is designed to support vulnerable groups, including women, children and the elderly, through access to essential healthcare services and stipends.

Dr Bashar disclosed that 27 candidates would be selected, with one fellow representing each of the 27 local government areas of Jigawa State.

He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the recruitment process, praising the state-level task force and interview committee for their professionalism, transparency and fairness.
