Zamfara State Government has expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work on the ongoing construction of the Gusau International Airport, a project expected to attract international investors and boost economic activities in the state once completed.

The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Lawal Barau Bungudu made this known while speaking with newsmen after inspecting the construction site of the airport.

He said the project would play a key role in opening up more investment opportunities for Zamfara State and reaffirmed the present administration’s commitment to delivering an international standard airport.

According Lawal Bungudu, the terminal buildings and other major components of the facility are expected to be completed by the end of January 2026, God willing.

“I am 100% satisfied with the ongoing work “I visited another airport in southern Nigeria recently, and I was proud of what we are doing here. Our airport is of international standard.”

“I highly appreciate the quality of the work. Everything is going according to plan and, God willing, from what I have seen, both the terminal buildings and other sites will be completed by the end of January,” he said.

Lawal Barau Bungudu added that, the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal is committed to delivering a world-class airport that the people of Zamfara will be proud of.

He emphasized that, the airport is not being built merely to ease travel but to open up Zamfara State to economic and social development.

“We expect investors to come to Zamfara. Under the leadership of Dr. Dauda Lawal, Zamfara will, insha’Allah, become a hub of economic and social activities,” the official stated.

Also speaking during the inspection, Mr Nicholas, one of the project supervisors, said the terminal buildings for both domestic and international operations were nearing completion.

He explained that construction of the main fire station had reached 50 percent, while the control tower had reached 60 percent completion.

According to him, the runway with shoulders has reached 80 percent.

“The airport terminal building has reached 80% completion, the control tower is at 70%, and the main fire station stands at 50% completion. The runway, handled by a separate engineering team, is also over 80% completed, with full completion expected by the end of January, God willing”

Things are moving well, and we hope to meet the deadlines,” he stated.
