The Zamfara State Ulama Consultative Forum has commended the State Zakat and Endowment Board for its plan to sponsor the marriage of 150 orphans, including covering all associated wedding expenses.

The Chairman of the Forum, Sheikh Umar Kanoma, made the commendation while briefing journalists shortly after the council’s 10th meeting held in Gusau, the state capital.

Sheikh Umar Kanoma explained that, the council had reviewed previous reports, deliberated on key issues, and approved several amendments aimed at strengthening its operations.

He also applauded the Zamfara State Hisbah Board for also approving to sponsor the marriages of 100 widows across the state.

According to him, such interventions would help in reducing social vices, especially at a time, when economic hardship has made marriage difficult for families with limited financial means.

The chairman further disclosed that, a special sub-committee has been established to engage with the newly formed Almajiri Education Board to understand its operational structure, particularly the student intake process.

This, he noted, would help to ensure that, Zamfara State secures adequate representation in the new education system.

Sheikh Kanoma explained that although some few students of Zamfara had earlier been selected under the new Almajiri initiative and assured that, the committee will interface with the board to ensure the state gets its rightful share in the next round.

He also expressed satisfaction that Zamfara remains one of the leading states in Nigeria with a high number of Qur’an memorizers (Huffaz), described it as a significant moral milestone for the state.

On the issue of sacked government workers who had petitioned the council over their dismissal, Sheikh Kanoma said the monitoring committee handling the matter had presented its findings after interacting with all affected parties.

He added that, another committee has been constituted to broaden the investigation, identify the root causes, and prepare a comprehensive report ahead of the council’s meeting.

The Ulama Council also urged residents and Islamic scholars to intensify prayers for an end to the security challenges confronting Zamfara State.

According to Sheikh Kanoma, the council has already established a Security Advisory Committee to provide recommendations to the state government.
