The House of Representatives has expressed its commitment to transforming the power sector for sustainable development and economic prosperity.
Chairman of the Adhoc Committee set up to investigate the power sector from 2007 to 2024, Hon. Aliyu Ibrahim Almustapha, who represents the Raba/Wurno Federal Constituency in Sokoto State, gave the assurance during a retreat with consultants and stakeholders in Abuja.
Aliyu Almustapha said the objective of the retreat is to serve as a preparatory opportunity to equip themselves with the necessary insights, strategies, and collaborative spirit needed to fulfill their mandate effectively.
He said the committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of uncovering truths, assessing progress, examining challenges, and ensuring accountability within the power sector this time around.
The lawmaker assured that the Power Sector Reforms have been a cornerstone of our national development agenda, saying these reforms were designed to foster sustainable growth, improve efficiency and ensure reliable electricity supply for the entire country.
Almustapha also believes that as
members of the committee, it is their duty to meticulously scrutinize the implementation of these reforms and focus on identifying successes to be celebrated and areas where objectives may have been faltered.
He said it is through comprehensive analysis the committee will be able to provide actionable recommendations that will propel the power sector towards greater resilience.
He however, urged members of the committee in the upcoming investigative hearing to engage with diligence, objectivity, and an unwavering commitment to the truth.
In his closing remarks, a member of the committee, Hon. Abubakar Fulata, expressed confidence that with the calibre of members, stakeholders, and technical experts involved, the committee will deliver insights that can drive meaningful transformation in the power sector.
He urged members to embark on the task with the determination and commitment needed to address the challenges facing Nigeria’s power sector.
