Federal retirees have been advised to organise national prayers over the delayed payment of their benefits, despite repeated assurances from the relevant authorities.

A former member of the National Assembly, Senator Mas’ud El-Jibril Daguwa, gave the advice in a telephone interview. He expressed dismay over the prolonged delay, considering the sacrifices senior citizens have made for the country.

Senator Mas’ud Doguwa also stressed the need for the retirees leadership to seek intervention of the National Assembly through strong lobbying of vocal members who would present motions on the issue for necessary action.

He reminded the Federal Government that pension was a constitutional matter that should not be compromised for whatever reason in the interest of the public service.

The former legislator was however delighted over efforts of the National Pension Commission top pay such entitlements by the end of this month following release of required funds by the presidency after several appeals by stakeholders.
