The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Haruna Musa, stated this during a dialogue themed “Affirming the Contribution of Culture and Faith Institutions to the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Northern Nigeria.”
The event was organized by the Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) in collaboration with BUK’s Centre for Islamic Civilization and Interfaith Dialogue (CICID).
Professor Haruna noted that BUK has been at the forefront of promoting women’s empowerment and protection through various initiatives, including the establishment of the Centre for Gender Studies, which has continued to drive impactful programs for a decade.
He revealed that the centre is celebrating its 10th anniversary with remarkable achievements, adding that the university remains open to partnerships with relevant stakeholders aimed at uplifting women to global standards.
In her remarks, the Secretary-General of WRAPA, Hajiya Saudat Shehu Mahdi, said the organization remains committed to strengthening women and girls to understand their rights and seek redress when violated.
She explained that the objective of the session was to affirm the role of cultural and faith leaders as proactive enablers of women’s rights, while also promoting accountability in ensuring a Nigeria where women and girls can live free from violence.
