Officers and men under 8 Division of the Nigerian Army have been tasked to renew their resolve in the ongoing fight against banditry and other threats to national security in their areas of responsibility.
The General Officer Commanding of the division, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, made the call at Natsinta Barracks in Katsina at the closing ceremony of the Inter-brigade Combat Proficiency Competition organized for army formations under the division.
Gen. Ajose explained that the aim of the competition is to sharpen the skills of troops and encourage formations under the Division to improve on weaknesses observed during the various competitions.
He tasked officers and men from the various brigades to continue to train themselves to master the skills of weapons handling, physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, communication, and combat.
The GOC noted that in line with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff, 8 Division prioritizes the welfare of troops by ensuring good feeding, essential medical care, decent accommodation and personal protection equipment for soldiers.
Earlier, the Commander of the 17 Brigade, Brigadier General Babatunde Omopariola, reminded the contingents that current security challenges in the country require improved levels of preparedness by the Nigerian Army and sister services.
He said the competition was part of deliberate efforts aimed at enhancing training in the Nigerian Army towards maintaining a well-motivated and combat-ready force that can effectively defend the nation.
Meanwhile, 17 Brigade, Katsina, emerged winner of the competition which entails weapons handling, marksmanship, map reading, range shooting, four by four hundred meters relay, hurdles crossing and combat.
