Operation FANSAN Yamma has refuted claims that a Nigerian Air Force strike targeted a civilian wedding in Zamfara State, describing the reports as false and misleading.
The Media Information Officer of the operation, Captain David Adewusi, stated this in a release issued on Friday.
He explained that the airstrike carried out on August 4, 2025, was based on credible intelligence indicating the presence of heavily armed terrorists, including a notorious kingpin, Ado Aliero, at the foot of Asola Hills in Yankuzo Ward, Tsafe Local Government Area.
Captain Adewusi said the gathering suspected to be a wedding ceremony was actually a cover for a meeting of terrorists from Katsina and Zamfara States, who were planning coordinated attacks on nearby communities.
According to him, surveillance confirmed the presence of armed fighters before precision-guided weapons were deployed, resulting in the death of several terrorists and injuries to others.
He added that troops from 1 Brigade under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN Yamma later advanced to intercept fleeing terrorists but were ambushed at Asola Hills.
Captain Adewusi said the troops returned fire, neutralizing more terrorists and injuring four collaborators from Kunchin Kalgo village.
He confirmed that two soldiers were injured during the encounter and are currently receiving treatment in stable condition.
The operation reportedly neutralized no fewer than 30 terrorists and restored calm to Yankuzo, Tsafe, and surrounding communities.
Captain Adewusi urged the public to disregard unverified reports aimed at undermining ongoing security operations.
