Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has described the medical outreach organized by the World Assembly of Muslim Youths (WAMY), in the State, as a significant humanitarian intervention aimed at improving the lives and wellbeing of the people.
Governor Idris stated this while receiving the WAMY medical team at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, during a courtesy visit, the team comprises more than 30 medical doctors from different parts of the world who are in the State to provide free medical services to residents.
The Governor expressed profound appreciation to WAMY and the Nasara Foundation for choosing Kebbi State for the outreach, noting that the programme provides a valuable opportunity for people, particularly those who may not be able to afford specialized medical care, to access essential treatment and surgical procedures.
He assured the visiting team that the Kebbi State Government would continue to provide an enabling environment for humanitarian and medical interventions, stressing that the government remained committed to partnering with WAMY and other organisations on initiatives that would improve the wellbeing of the people.
Earlier, the Executive Director of WAMY, Hisham Muhammad, disclosed that, the organisation had deployed a team of medical experts to Kebbi State for a week-long general surgery outreach, which commenced on Saturday.
The medical team, led by Dr. Abdul Latif Barnawi, a general surgeon, comprises specialists from various medical fields, explained that the outreach would focus mainly on general surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, as well as paediatric surgery.
He said approximately 1,500 patients would benefit from free surgical operations, and broader medical services during the exercise.
According to him, the team would attend to various women’s health and obstetric cases, perform necessary surgeries, and provide patients with the medications and post-operative care required.
