A former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Pension, Alhaji Ibrahim Bawa Kamba says steps taken by the National Assembly towards immediate payment of pension arrears is highly commendable.
Alhaji Ibrahim Kamba in an interview in Kaduna was delighted over passage of a motion by the Deputy Chief Whip Ibrahim Isiaka which appealed to the ministry of finance to release funds required for the exercise.
The former legislator noted that such efforts would alleviate sufferings of the senior citizens who had patiently waited for their benefits since the corona pandemic.
Alhaji Ibrahm Kamba stressed the need for the ministry to expedite action on the issue to justify concern of the legislators while relevant committees monitor implementation to avoid delay.
The Deputy Chief Whip had in the motion wondered why a presidential directive had been ignored without any consequence which undermines social stability nationwide.
