The member representing the Miga constituency Haruna Aliyu Dangyatum has emerged as the speaker of the 8th Jigawa State House of Assembly while Sani Isiyaku Gumel is the deputy speaker.
The new speaker was nominated by Hamza Adamu Ibrahim member representing the Malam-Madori constituency.
Twenty-nine state assembly members unanimously endorsed and approved the speaker and his deputy after their nomination.
The members were inaugurated following their oath of allegiance.
In his acceptance speech, the Speaker Haruna Aliyu Dangyatum pledged to cooperate with the state government and carry every member along.
It could be recalled that, some residents in Jigawa state on tuesday staged a protest against an alleged plan by the party chieftains to impose the former speaker Idris Garba Kareka as speaker of the 8th Assembly in the state.
The protest is to inform the members of the need to allow internal cohesion to prevail in their quest for new leadership.
They however advised the members elect to resist any temptation, intimidation, and coercion by external forces to undermine the process.
