House of Representatives has called on the relevant authorities in the education sector particularly the National Universities Commission, NUC to cause the suspension of academic activities for the period of elections.

The resolution followed the consideration of a motion sponsored by a member from Kebbi State, Mr Kabir Ibrahim at plenary on Thursday.

Leading the debate, the Lawmaker observed that the students constituted 40 percent of the newly registered voters in states outside the location of their schools.

He argued that it was their constitutional right to vote during elections and therefore should be allowed to do so.

The motion was eventually adopted by the House which secured the support of the majority.
