Polio Survivors Seek Enhanced Inclusion, Sensitization Campaign

Kaduna State Chairman of Polio Survivors Mallam Rilwan Mohammed Abdullahi says inclusion of affected persons in the implementation of polio immunization has created visible significance in the elimination of polio in the country.

Mallam Rilwan who stated while speaking to officials of Journalists Initiatives on Immunization Against Polio JAP, on the world polio survivor day however noted that the battle for polio eradication is not yet over.

He appealed to parents to always trust government programs and abide by policies directed towards improving health of citizens.

Mallam Rilwan noted he was crippled by the polio virus forty seven years ago and prayed that no child should ever experience such in the future.


According to him, the International Polio Survivor Day was to remember victims and give them a sense of belonging.

Also speaking, another polio survivor, Mallam Suleiman Abdulhazeez recalled superstitious , myths and notion that linked polio to some evil forces but it took the effort of media and experts to change such notions.


Mallam Suleiman Abdulhazeez also appealed for continuous campaign and sensitization on issues of polio and other deadly diseases in the country.


State Coordinator of JAP Mallam Lawal Dogara said the visit to polio survivors in Kaduna was to identity with them on the special day and appealed for government support to their plight.
