Kwara state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has absolved the state government from alleged illegal deduction from teachers’ salary under the state Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) in the month of September, 2022.

In a statement jointly signed by the state chairman, Comrade Oyewo Bashiru and the secretary, Moni Mike Modesty in Ilorin, the union said that the deduction was in line with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment approved NUT Constitution amendments in 2014.

The statement said the monthly payable Check-Off Dues by members was increased from two percent to three percent of members’ monthly basic or consolidated Salaries.

The statement said that the directive had been implemented across the federation and FCT since 2014 except in Kwara state.

The statement said the state had been maintaining a 1.39 percentage deduction that is at variance with the law, but unknown to the state government.

The statement explained that the directive to effect the new approved rate which has been in existence since 2014 was given by the headquarters of the NUT.
